Orphan Sunday & Answer the Cry...

/about
Next Sunday, November 7th, is known world-wide as Orphan Sunday.  It is our time as believers to become aware, plugged in, and pray for the 163 Million children around the world without parents to care for them.  FBC McKinney & The Journey have 2 ways we are bringing the Orphan Crisis to the forefront of our body of believers.  First, WHY?  Why is it important for all believers to understand the orphan crisis and adoption? Adoption is not uncommon to any believer.  Think about it.  In Romans, it says that "we have received the Spirit of Adoption by which we call out ABBA FATHER."  We were spiritual orphans before God ADOPTED us into His eternal family.  So, adoption is foundational to the gospel.

On Sunday morning, our very own Kent Jones will be delivering a message focused on the Christians' role in the lives of orphans.  In addition, we will be commissioning the Mitchell Family as they move to Bolivia to work with orphans full time!

Sunday Night we will be hosting the Answer the Cry Event.  Francis Chan,  The Chapman Family and many others will be challenging the Church to stand in the gap for orphans around the world.  This doesn't mean just adoption! There are many ways that EVERY CHRISTIAN can care for orphans!  Join us in the theater at 6:30.  Desserts & Drinks will be served.  Snacks and coloring sheets will be available for the children.

FALL CLASSES STARTING NEXT WEEK!!

The Journey will be starting it's first meetings this month, and we are very excited to invite you to join us!  We will be starting with 3 initial "Welcome to The Journey" meetings, which will then break off later in the Fall into smaller, more specific groups.  The meeting agendas are listed below.  Please pass this information along to others who may be interested, and we hope to see you there!

"Welcome to The Journey": A 3 series event to connect families who love adoption and orphan care to each other and the ministry of The Journey.  The meetings will be held in room 2109 behind the Hospitality Room.

Wednesday, September 8th : 6:15-7:30   Our Heart and History: This meeting will be very informal.  Lisa Fowler, the founder of The Journey, will be sharing how this ministry began and it's history.  We will also be casting out the vision of the upcoming activities of the ministry.  In addition to this, we will each have time to connect, share our stories, and needs or interests you may have.

Wednesday, September 22nd: 6:15-7:30  God's Heart for Orphans: This meeting will be hosted by Kent Jones and/or Shane McBride.  Kent Jones has worked internationally for years with I Go Global, and is in the process of adoption currently.  Shane McBride works with Hope for Orphans, and is an adoptive father. They will be exposing the need and call God has placed upon believers to care for orphans, and specifically how we can do that through First Baptist Church and The Journey.

Wednesday, October 6th: Fostering Hope:  This meeting will be focusing on ways to foster hope in the US foster care system. With over 500,000 children in foster care, there is a clear need for the Christian community to be involved.  Mark and Melissa Baker will be sharing their own fostering experience, along with ways that ANYONE can make a difference.

*Each of these meetings is welcome to ANYONE with a love for adoption, foster, or orphan care.
